# UpDock 1.5.1 Beta Changes and Testing Current TestFlight beta: **UpDock 1.5.1 (118)** Comparison baseline: **UpDock 1.5 (110)** This document covers changes made after build 110 for both Free and Plus. Items marked **Plus** are unavailable or fixed in Free by design. ## Changes Since 1.5 (110) ### Development and UI Reliability - A development-only Settings layout HUD was added for interface measurement and remains compiled out of release/TestFlight builds. - Running-application diamonds now sit behind Dock Item icons, with hovered icons raised above them. - UpDock Folder, Finder Folder, and BBEdit Project Folder types retain their identities after later Settings edits. - User-facing folder terminology now distinguishes UpDock Folder from Finder Folder. - The About panel now opens when Settings has never been shown or is closed and uses the current edition name. ### Media Dock Items - Local audio and video files can be added as Media Dock Items. - Audio supports immediate soundboard playback, overlap, retriggering, volume, and non-destructive ranges. - Video supports resizable UpDock previews, standard controls, volume, and non-destructive ranges. - Untrimmed Media drags/exports the original file; trimmed Media renders `.m4a` or `.mov` clips. - Local Media can be dragged to Finder and compatible editors while retaining UpDock move/copy behavior. - Apple Music song and playlist shared links can be stored and opened in Music. - Media metadata persists through settings, folders, search, diagnostics, and import/export. ### Organization and Shift Items - Folder menus can create a Mini-Dock from copied folder contents or copy a complete folder hierarchy to another Mini-Dock. - Mini-Dock state terminology now uses Active, Activate, Deactivate, and Inactive. - Active-first checkmark sorting temporarily groups active Mini-Docks without changing saved order. - **Plus:** ABC and active-first sorts are mutually exclusive. - The Shift header now shows the current Mini-Dock name in bold above the app version/build. - The built-in Shift set uses the Mac’s default mail application. - **Plus:** A one-time **Default Shift Items** source is installed with Finder, Notes, the default mail app, and UpDock. - **Free:** Shift Items remain fixed and non-editable. - The Shift Items explanatory badge was removed from the first-column list. ### Shortcuts - Shortcuts run without bringing the Shortcuts app forward. - Add Shortcuts now supports search, complete-folder selection, select-all, and order-preserving folder import. - Shortcut launch work uses user-initiated priority and cannot stall on unused standard output. ### Search - One click on a result selects its Mini-Dock and displays it in Configuration. - Double-click also activates that Mini-Dock. - Show Mini-Dock follows the same selection and activation path. ## Beta Test Checklist ### Installation and Upgrade - [ ] Install build 118 through TestFlight and confirm version 1.5.1 and build 118 in About and Diagnostics. - [ ] Upgrade an existing 1.5 (110) installation and confirm all Mini-Docks, nested folders, bookmarks, icons, saved order, and Plus entitlement remain intact. - [ ] Confirm the Layout HUD control and overlay are absent from the TestFlight build. - [ ] Edit and relaunch UpDock Folder, Finder Folder, and BBEdit Project Folder items; confirm they are mutually exclusive and neither changes saved manual order. - [ ] Confirm Plus still enforces 100 Mini-Docks and 50 items per Mini-Dock. ### Media - [ ] Add and play `.m4a`, `.mp3`, `.wav`, and `.aiff` audio items. - [ ] Confirm same-item retriggering, simultaneous audio playback, saved volume, and start/end ranges. - [ ] Add `.mov` and `.mp4` videos; confirm resizable previews, controls, volume, and range boundaries. - [ ] Drag/export untrimmed Media and confirm the original source file is delivered unchanged. - [ ] Drag/export trimmed audio and video and confirm playable `.m4a` and `.mov` clips with the expected duration. - [ ] Confirm the original files remain unchanged after previews, trimming, dragging, and export. - [ ] Add Apple Music song and playlist links; confirm Music opens the correct references. - [ ] Relaunch and round-trip Media through settings export/import in Plus. - [ ] Test missing, moved, inaccessible, malformed, and unsupported Media references without hangs or data loss. ### Shortcuts - [ ] Search by Shortcut and folder name, select individual results, select a complete folder, and use Select All Shown. - [ ] Import with Preserve Shortcuts folders enabled; confirm folder and item order match Shortcuts. - [ ] Import with preservation disabled; confirm selected items are added in source order at the Mini-Dock root. - [ ] Run imported Shortcuts and confirm the Shortcuts app does not come forward. - [ ] Compare launch responsiveness with build 110 and report the Shortcut name and observed delay if execution remains slow. ### Folder Actions, Search, and About - [ ] Create a Mini-Dock from an UpDock Folder and confirm copied contents have independent IDs and preserve nested order. - [ ] Copy a complete folder hierarchy to another Mini-Dock and confirm later edits do not affect the source. - [ ] Search by Mini-Dock and Dock Item names; one-click several results and confirm Configuration changes each time. - [ ] Double-click a result and confirm its Mini-Dock is selected and activated. - [ ] Relaunch, leave Settings closed, and choose About UpDock; confirm it appears above other apps. ### Regression - [ ] Test Finder drops, internal reordering, cross-dock copies, folder drops, and multi-selection in the Content Editor. - [ ] Test URL opening, application launching, running diamonds, labels, hover, edge activation, and auto-hide. - [ ] Test Add Shortcuts in Free and Plus, plus import/export, defaults, accessibility, diagnostics, and App Shortcuts.
